S.A.M.E. sets out on annual youth engagement tour

11"x17"

Toronto – February 3, 2015 – Students Against Migrant Exploitation, also known as the S.A.M.E. group, is getting ready to hit the road again for its annual tour of schools, colleges and universities.

Each year, S.A.M.E. reaches out to more than 10,000 students face-to-face, while using social media to engage thousands more. For this year's tour, the group aims to surpass the unprecedented record of 75 schools visited in 26 days set in 2014.

For 2015, workshops will cover various topics including human rights, respect for migrant workers, cross-cultural workshops, and engaging young people about where our food comes from. The tour and it seminars, which are coordinated by a group of over a dozen S.A.M.E. members, student chapter presidents, and volunteers, are all presented by young motivational speakers. Workshops provided by the group will also feature several renowned artists and performers from across Canada. The Filipino youth group, Anakbayan, will also be joining the S.A.M.E. tour at various stops.

"We aim to inspire and motivate students of all ages to become active participants in their schools, communities and workplaces," says S.A.M.E. co-ordinator Pablo Godoy. "Our goal is to educate and empower students and educators alike by providing information on migrant exploitation. This year's tour looks to be bigger and better than ever.”

The S.A.M.E. tour runs from March 1 to March 30.

Since its launch in 2009, S.A.M.E. has grown into Canada's leading student social justice movement to empower and engage youth on migrant worker and labour rights issues.
