Saskatoon, Sask. – October 9, 2014 – More than 120 stewards, activists, and labour and community leaders recently gathered for the UFCW Canada Local 1400 Shop Stewards Conference.
During the weekend gathering participants were also honoured to be joined by Local 1400 members who are currently locked out at Richardson Milling in Martensville, Saskatchewan. Stewards, activists and leaders pledged their continued solidarity with the members at Richardson Milling and paid tribute to their strength and determination to secure a fair collective agreement.
The weekend conference, September 27-29, was also filled with valuable stewards training workshops and special presentations made by guests from across Saskatchewan and Canada. Participants learned important updates about the work of Local 1400, the union’s community fundraising initiatives, and national organizing successes.
Stewards heard from Local 1400 President Norm Neault, Saskatchewan New Democratic Party Leader Cam Broten, leaders from local labour councils and the United Way, and from UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema.
“Your commitment as Local 1400 stewards makes a tremendous difference everyday to your fellow members, “said Brother Meinema, “and your workplace and union are better because of it.”
