Local 500 members at Extra Auteuil IGA achieve new contract

Local 500 members at Extra Auteuil IGA achieve new contractLaval, Que. – July 31, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 500 Members at the Extra Auteuil IGA in Laval, Quebec have achieved a new collective agreement effective last month. Roughly one hundred members will benefit from the contract, allowing them to build on past achievements to improve their working conditions through collective bargaining. Local 500 has represented members at the Extra Auteuil IGA since 2009, and the new contract runs until June 2021.

Under the collective agreement, workers who have been at the top of the wage scale for at least six months will receive a 2 percent wage increase, while workers who are paid above the current wage scale will receive a 2 percent increase in the form of a lump sum payment.

In addition to salary adjustments, the new collective agreement provides improved premiums and bonuses. Night shift employees will receive a premium of $0.90 per hour worked, while those acting as supervisors will receive $0.50 per hour worked. The Christmas bonus that is allocated to eligible employees has also been increased.

Other improvements to the collective agreement include:

  • A minimum of four consecutive work hours per day for part-time employees

  • The introduction of a 32-hour reduced work week, broken into four days per week

  •  Longer breaks for part-time employees

  • 56 hours of sick leave for employees with nine years of seniority or more

"The members at the Extra Auteuil IGA in Laval have achieved their second collective agreement since joining Local 500, and are very satisfied with the outcome of negotiations," says UFCW Canada Local 500 President Antonio Filato. "I would like to congratulate the negotiating committee and all of the members involved in the bargaining process," Brother Filato adds.
