Leukemia research was the winner, as dozens of participants and onlookers enjoyed the speed and sunshine at the Second Annual Mini-Indy go-cart races held recently in Regina. The fundraising event drew go-cart enthusiasts from across the region for a fun-filled competition in the parking lot next to the UFCW Canada Local 1400 regional office in Regina.
In addition to being a venue host, Local 1400 was also part of the race excitement with its Team 1400 entry. When the checkered flag dropped, it was Team 1400 that was first across the finish — claiming the Mini-Indy champion cup for the second year in a row. But the real winner of the day was leukemia research, with the event raising more than $5,000 to support the research efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
"It was a great event in a support of a great cause," said Norm Neault, the president of UFCW Canada Local 1400. "We're all grateful that this race contributes to another one — to find a cure and better treatments for leukemia and other blood cancers."
