UFCW Canada Local 1869's recent 8th Anniversary Picnic was a huge success, with this year's event attracting its largest turnout ever. More than 900 Local 1869 members enjoyed this year's festivities, and at the same time shared their goodwill with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) and with Winnipeg Harvest food bank.
UFCW Canada Local 1869 represents members at St. Boniface Hospital, Compass Morrison Cafeteria, Diagnostic Services of Manitoba, and at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority laundry operations. The members' fundraising efforts at this year's picnic raised over $1,300 for the LLSC, while almost 600 pounds of food was collected and donated to Winnipeg Harvest.
"UFCW Canada Local 1869 members have always been committed to making things better — at work and in the community," says Local 1869 President Aline Audette. "It's that spirit, along with the support of all the volunteers and generous sponsors that helped to make this year's picnic the great success it was for the membership, the LLSC and for Winnipeg Harvest."
