National Council meets in Toronto
UFCW Canada leaders from across the country met in Toronto on May 12 for the first National Council meeting of the year. The members of the union’s national executive board dedicated the day to discussing a number of important issues facing UFCW Canada, and further expanded on an organizing strategy that was developed at the union’s recent Growth Summit (see DIRECTIONS 10.11).
The National Council also heard from its four committees who reported steady progress on a number of initiatives that have been developed and launched this year, and about their long-term strategies for helping UFCW Canada meet the priorities outlined in the One Union One Voice program (see DIRECTIONS 10.17).
UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley chaired the meeting and reported, “The National Council and its committees have accomplished a great deal since they were reconstituted less than three years ago to create a more representative and inclusive forum for the union’s leadership. The committees in particular have worked really hard to enhance communication and collaboration within the organization, and to move the union closer to meeting the 2018 growth target.”
