Toronto – November 7, 2025 – Leading representatives from labour, industry and government in the agrifood sector in Canada met in Toronto this week to discuss the future of decent work in the sector in Canada, building upon the model of social dialogue recommended in the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Decent work guidelines for the agrifood sector.
Oshawa, Ont. – November 7, 2025 – Employees at Kinark Child & Family Services in Oshawa have successfully joined UFCW Locals 175 & 633. The organization, which provides autism, child & youth forensic and mental health services employ consultants and instructor therapists many of whom say they feel overworked and undervalued.
Toronto – November 4, 2025 – UFCW Canada’s National Council has elected Barry Sawyer as the new National President following the election of outgoing National President Shawn Haggerty to the position of International Secretary-Treasurer of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW).
Toronto – November 4, 2025 – UFCW Canada and Moccasin Identifier unveiled a new mural by Anishnawbe artist Philip Cote, Return of the Sacred. This work was commissioned by UFCW Canada, in partnership with Moccasin Identifier, as part of the union’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation, Indigenous advocacy, and treaty recognition. The mural will be a permanent installation at UFCW Canada’s headquarters.
Edmonton – October 31, 2025 – UFCW Canada stands in solidarity with Alberta’s labour movement as they fight back against the Alberta UCP’s decision to legislate teachers back to work and invoke the notwithstanding clause to impose a collective agreement.
Toronto – October 31, 2025 – Over 40 UFCW Canada activists from across Ontario gathered at Queen’s Park for a UFCW Canada Ontario Lobby Day, meeting with MPPs and key decision-makers to advocate for the issues that matter most to working people. Over the course of more than 30 meetings, activists addressed key priorities including affordability, workers’ rights, health and safety, and solidarity with Indigenous communities.

Ottawa – October 27, 2025 – Employer organizations and the largest union for Canada’s food processing sector are jointly calling on the federal government to create a new, dedicated immigration pathway that provides a route to permanent residency for essential jobs in the food sector.
