National Loblaw committee meets in B.C.

Vancouver – October 10, 2013 – As UFCW Canada local unions in the Prairie provinces were negotiating their latest agreements with the Loblaw Companies, members of the UFCW Canada National Loblaw Companies Committee were meeting in Vancouver to discuss the many everyday issues affecting UFCW Canada members at Loblaw grocery stores and warehouses from coast to coast.
Members of the committee come from UFCW Canada Local Unions which represent members working at Loblaw Company banner stores across Canada. The twice-a-year meeting is coordinated by the National Office, and brings together members, officers, and staff to share strategies regarding contract negotiations, grievances, arbitrations, health and safety matters, and other emerging issues for members at Loblaw Companies locations.
"Certainly, the bargaining going on in the Prairie provinces took up some of the discussion," says Robert Armstrong, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Canada Local 500 and a member of the Loblaw committee. "But looking to the future, the committee was really focused on learning what works for each Local Union to resolve day-to-day issues with the company, and using that combined knowledge to best represent the members."
