In Solidarity with CUPW
UFCW Canada is joining a growing number of concerned Canadians by supporting the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) in stamping the latest contract offer by their employer, the Canada Post Corporation, as short-sighted and unfair for our communities, and in demanding it be returned to sender for more careful consideration.
Since last year, the Canada Post Corporation has been trying to impose a number of serious concessions on the CUPW members who work in the crown company’s urban operations division.
In addition to the corporation’s desire to gut the long-standing collective agreement, the introduction of new work methods has resulted in unsafe working conditions, excessive amounts of forced overtime, and major problems with service to the public.
“UFCW Canada members share CUPW’s concern about Canada Post’s modernization program, and join our CUPW Sister and Brothers in calling for service expansion and the preservation of members’ rights,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley in recent letter of support to the CUPW leadership.
“To help support the CUPW campaign for fairness, UFCW Canada is rallying member-activists across the country to mobilize their co-workers, neighbours and social networks to maintain the Canada Post we know, want and need,” adds Brother Hanley.
