Court rejects Wal-Mart bid to block union status at St-Hyacinthe, Quebec store: First contract arbitration continues
St-Hyacinthe, QC- April 9, 2006 The Quebec Superior Court has rejected Wal-Mart’s
challenge of a January 2005 Quebec Labour Relations Commission (QLRC) decision to grant UFCW Canada union certification to employees at a Wal-Mart store in St-Hyacinthe, east of Montreal.
The decision means that arbitration leading to a first contract continues for the location, as well as for the St-Hyacinthe Wal-Mart Tire & Lube Express which was later certified in March 2005. Wal-Mart locations in Hull, QC, Surrey, BC and Cranbrook, BC have also been certified. To view the latest Quebec Superior Court decision (in French only) click here.
