Mobilizing aid for Chile
Barely a month and a half removed from Haiti’s devastating earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands, another shattering earthquake has left Chile in what its government deems is “a state of catastrophe”. The 8.8 magnitude earthquake, one of the largest ever recorded, has left hundreds of thousands of people affected in Chile and abroad.
In the wake of this tragedy, thousands of Chilean-Canadians — many who are UFCW Canada members — are trying desperately to come to the aid of their loved ones in Chile.
As Canada’s largest private sector union, UFCW Canada stands with Chile and all Chilean-Canadians, and calls upon its more than 250,000 members as well as local unions to donate what they can to humanitarian organizations that have mobilized to support Chile in this time of need.
As an organization that was quick to respond with relief for Haiti, and that firmly believes in helping those in need, we will stand hand in hand with Chile throughout this disaster.
In solidarity,
Wayne Hanley
National President
