UFCW Canada, World Pride 2014 salute 2 Spirits Toronto
Toronto – June 19, 2014 – World Pride 2014 promises to be the largest and most dynamic Pride celebration ever. Pride Toronto organizers have chosen 2 Spirits Toronto as this year’s Honoured Group.
On January 22, 1989, the founding meeting of 2 Spirits Toronto was held at the 519 Church Street Community Centre in Toronto. In response to the AIDS crisis, the organization came to the forefront in raising awareness in Aboriginal communities about the impact of HIV and AIDS.
Today, 2 Spirits Toronto is the only Aboriginal non-profit organization in Canada that offers services and support to Two Spirit People and all First Nations communities living with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
UFCW Canada plays a leading role in advocating for Aboriginal nations, in campaigns such as Our Dreams Matter Too, Shannen’s Dream,Jordan’s Principle and I Am a Witness. As Canada’s leading union for private sector workers, UFCW Canada is also taking a leading role in World Pride 2014. On June 28, check out our special drop-in event - Come and Celebrate Your UFCW Pride – from 10AM to 4PM at the Sheraton Centre Hotel.
