Industry Snapshot: Chicken outlook strong but food service restrictions remain a problem
Toronto – April 9, 2021 – The latest information from Kevin Grier Market Analysis and Consulting Inc. suggests an increase in demand for chicken products this spring. With the warm weather arriving and many eager to fire-up the BBQ, chicken sales at retailers lead a strong outlook.
However, there remains cause for concern as food service operators continue to experience prolonged setbacks with pandemic restrictions. The sooner the Canadian public resumes normal daily activities, the sooner the meat industry can benefit most.
With that said, chicken continues to outperform pork and beef in retail, demanding high prices with strong production margins. Any cut in production has buyers on edge, keeping price in pace. But with restaurants, travel, and accommodation all shuttered temporarily, food service meat sales are feeling the pinch.
It seems like the best way back to prosperity involves everyone doing their best to avoid non-essential travel while staying safe and vaccinating.
