New Westminster, B.C. – April 19, 2016 – UFCW Canada Local 1518 members working at Safeway Gas Bar locations throughout British Columbia have ratified a new collective agreement that includes wage increases and numerous improvements to contract language.
Safeway Gas Bars are located in the parking lots of Safeway/Sobeys store locations across B.C.
The new agreement provides a $1.05 per hour increase for workers at the top of the wage scale. Workers will also receive a 75-cent off-scale increase, plus on-scale increases for employees below the top rate during the term of the agreement.
As well, the new contract provides full retroactivity for all hours worked since the expiry of the previous agreement, and an improved pay scale system for newly hired employees. Workers will continue to receive wage increases every 500 hours, but with improved incremental amounts. In addition, the relief rate and gas bar team coordinator premiums have been improved. Finally, the new agreement includes stronger health and safety and shop steward provisions.
The negotiating committee included Randy Cairns, Barb Perrin, and UFCW Canada Local 1518 Union Representative Dave Archibald.
