Every year, on December 6, the Manitoba Federation of Labour Women’s Committee organizes a memorial luncheon to honour and remember the women who died in Montreal in 1989. The gathering also pays tribute to the women from Manitoba who have died senselessly, due to violence.
Winnipeg - December 6, 2012 - UFCW Canada members and activists gathered with other community members at the Manitoba Legislature on Thursday to commemorate Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
This December 6, women and men and families will gather at vigils and memorials across the country to commemorate the 14 young women who were murdered by a gunman chanting "I hate feminists" on December 6, 1989 at the École Polytechnique in Montreal.
The CEDAW Report Card – administered by The West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) – grades the B.C. government on how well it has adhered to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all forms for Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
UFCW Local 832 is encouraging its members to take part in the “Take Back the Night” March on September 20, at 6:30 p.m.
