Toronto – March 5, 2014 – As it stands right now, only a few Canadian provinces protect gender identity. While Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and the Northwest Territories explicitly protect gender identity from discrimination within their human rights legislation, other provinces do not.
Toronto – February 27, 2014 – Since the release of his June 2012 White Paper, Paths To Prosperity – Flexible Labour Markets, Ontario Conservative Boss Tim Hudak has travelled the province demonizing workers and their unions as the main cause of job losses in Ontario.
Toronto – February 14, 2014 – Recently, Tom Mulcair and the NDP introduced a motion in Parliament that would ensure that our veterans could, "count on the government for support in their time of need, and that the government should demonstrate this support by (a) immediately addressing the mental health crisis facing Canadian soldiers and veterans by hiring appropriate mental health professionals; (b) reversing its decision to close veterans' offices; and (c) prioritizing and concluding the over 50 outstanding boards of inquiry on military suicides so that grieving families may have answers and closure."
Toronto – February 11, 2014 – At a time when young Canadians are struggling to find good paying jobs, more seniors are living in poverty, and while high unemployment persists, especially for First Nations, Harper’s Conservatives introduced a budget more concerned with the continued gutting of services in order to squeeze enough money out of the system to introduce a new round of tax cuts to bolster their re-election campaign in 2015.
Ottawa – February 7, 2014 – As this is being written, the Harper conservatives have just passed a ‘Time Allocation Motion’ limiting debate on their new Bill C-23, Fair Elections Act. The 242-page bill had only just been introduced and already debate is being restricted.
Toronto – February 3, 2014 – UFCW Canada’s groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, has launched two new courses for the month of February. The free online courses are being offered from February 3rd to 28th and are available to all UFCW Canada members and their families, as well as our community partners.
