Toronto – June 3, 2014 – Yet again, Conservative boss Stephen Harper and his Minister of Veterans Affairs Julian Fantino have shown their contempt for the men and women who have served our country in military service.
The Ontario Election is right around the corner, and if everything goes as planned, young voters will turn out to the polls in much lower numbers than our older counterparts. And that's a shame, because our generation can have a major impact on the election if we choose to get out and vote.
Ottawa – May 24, 2014 – UFCW Canada, the nation’s most progressive union, joined thousands of Canadians to successfully pressure the federal government to drastically alter the Unfair Elections Act. Bill C-23 – deceitfully dubbed the Fair Elections Act by the Conservatives – was Harper’s latest attempt to dismantle democracy in Canada. Following a firestorm of opposition across the country, including a comprehensive UFCW Canada lobbying and media campaign, the government was forced to gut the bill of some of its most controversial elements.
Toronto – May 5, 2014 – No matter how it turns out, the upcoming Ontario election is bound to impact everyday working people and their families, including more than 100,000 UFCW Canada members and their families across the province.
Toronto – April 17, 2014 – The UFCW Canada National Council met in Toronto on April 15 and 16 to focus on the union’s organizing efforts in the retail food industry, and to discuss the best way to build political momentum for fairness as workers and their families face unprecedented assaults on their labour rights from governments at all levels.
Woodbridge, Ont. – April 3, 2014 – Activists from UFCW Canada Locals 1000A and 12R24 recently participated in a two-week election campaign training course at the Local 1000A office in Woodbridge, Ontario in preparation for a possible provincial election this spring.
