UFCW Canada jumps up at this year’s Junior Caribana Carnival

UFCW Canada activists braved the sweltering heat on July 16 to join over 3,000 spectacularly dressed kids in the Jane and Finch area of Toronto for this year’s Caribana Junior Carnival.

Coming on the heels of the UFCW Canada Summer Splash, Locals 1000A, 1993, and the National Office played mas with the union’s long-time community partner – and last year’s Junior Parade winner – the Louis Saldenah Mas-K Club Band.

Summer Splash fundraiser celebrates 2011 Caribana season

UFCW Canada jumped into the 2011 Caribana season on July 9 with an action-packed celebration that raised over $3,000 for two life changing causes. Organized by UFCW Canada Local 1993 and the National Office, the union’s annual “Summer Splash” drew over 250 members, families and supporters from across Ontario to dance, share and combine their efforts for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) and Camp Jumoke, a not-for-profit summer camp dedicated to helping children who suffer from sickle cell disease.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination — March 21

It has been more than fifty years since the most unspeakable racist incidents occurred in South Africa, shocking the whole world and prompting the United Nations to declare March 21, as a commemorative date to observe the International Day for the elimination of racial discrimination.  This incident screamed the word "racism" as a gigantic billboard to challenge humanity with the consequences of intolerance.
