As the G20 sets up shop in downtown Toronto, UFCW Canada is working with its allies to make the final arrangements for two public forums that promise to engage activists and raise some essential questions about the impact of globalization on workers and their communities.
After many years of warnings by UFCW Canada and its allies, and after the tragic Christmas Eve death of four workers, the Ontario government is finally starting to admit the province’s system for injured workers is unfit and requires urgent care.
Under the flags of the Agriculture Workers Alliance, more than 300 Mexican migrant farm workers descended on the Canadian embassy in Mexico City on June 15, to denounce their working and living conditions as migrant agriculture workers in Canada under the federal government’s Seasonal Agriculture Workers Program (SAWP).
The Second World Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) is being held in Vancouver from June 21 to 25, with more than one thousand delegates from labour organizations around the world representing 176 million workers.
One hundred and one trade unionists were killed last year while trying to make a difference in the lives of working people around the world.
