National President Wayne Hanley says fundraising allegations filed by the Conservative Party of Canada against the NDP just before Labour Day were "a groundless, strategic assault on the labour movement, and on ordinary Canadians who are fed up with the vicious, partisan politics the Harper Conservatives are so proud of."
In addition to the many benefits of Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) membership, AWA members are now also automatically covered, at no cost, by a new Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plan. As of September 6, 2011, a $2,500 benefit will be paid to the family of an AWA member who dies while contracted to work in Canada.

In honour of Jack Layton's outstanding contribution to the social justice movement, UFCW Canada has created a commemorative poster to celebrate his remarkable life and the hope and optimism he inspired in Canadians from coast to coast.
UFCW Canada members across the country are joining the country in mourning the loss of Jack Layton, leader of the Official Opposition and federal NDP, who died on August 22 after a very brave and courageous battle with cancer.
