A better direction for Canada in 2014
Toronto – January 6, 2014 – The beginning of a new year is typically a time of optimism when many folks make resolutions to take action to make the future better. A resolve to join as engaged citizens can make that happen, by standing together to campaign and defeat Ultra-Conservative politicians and their corporate-only agenda.


December 19, 2013 – Around this time of year, it's hard not to notice the goodness of people – the high school student holding the door so you can get the stroller through; the person who comes rushing to your rescue in the parking lot with a set of jumper cables; children meeting for the first time while building a snowman at the park; strangers sincerely wishing other strangers good wishes for the season. Altogether, it is a season of sharing goodwill as a caring and diverse community.

For about 900,000 of these visitors, 2013 was the first year they needed a food bank in their struggle to put food on the table. In total, there were more than 14 million visits to food banks in Canada in 2013, and the need in 2014 is not expected to drop. The number of people turning to food banks is actually higher than when the recession began five years ago, and across Canada, more than four million people (including more than a million children) go hungry because they can't afford to meet their needs when it comes to food.
