The 34th Annual Vancouver Pride Parade recently kicked off in the city’s West End under blue skies and sizzling heat. This year, an enthusiastic group of UFCW Canada Local 1518 activists proudly marched with members of the parade’s Multi-Union Pride delegation.
Eighteen UFCW Canada youth activists from Local Unions 1518, 401, 1118, 832 and 1400 shared their ideas and enthusiasm at the 2012 Youth Internship Program (YIP) Western Regional session, July 8 -13, in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia. YIP is meant "to engage and empower youth activists with the knowledge and confidence that they have the opportunity to bring positive change to their workplace and in their communities", says national representative Enver Harbans, who co-facilitated the workshops along with national representative Michael Toal.

The United Nations (UN) International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is observed each year on August 9 in Canada and elsewhere around the globe. This day is celebrated to promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population. This is also an occasion to recognize the many valuable achievements and contributions that indigenous people make to our environment and way of life.
UFCW Canada activists and their families joined over a million masqueraders and spectators at the Toronto Caribana Parade on August 4. Once again joining long-time community partner and 16-time Band of the Year Winner, the Louis Saldenah Mas-K Club, UFCW Canada activists from Locals 12R24, 175 & 633, 1000A, 1993, and the National Office enthusiastically took part in the world’s largest Caribbean cultural celebration outside of the Caribbean.
