National President Wayne Hanley says fundraising allegations filed by the Conservative Party of Canada against the NDP just before Labour Day were "a groundless, strategic assault on the labour movement, and on ordinary Canadians who are fed up with the vicious, partisan politics the Harper Conservatives are so proud of."
In addition to the many benefits of Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) membership, AWA members are now also automatically covered, at no cost, by a new Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plan. As of September 6, 2011, a $2,500 benefit will be paid to the family of an AWA member who dies while contracted to work in Canada.
UFCW Canada members, family members, and social justice partners are free to sign-up for the newest webCampus courses launching in November. All webCampus courses are offered at no cost, and can be taken at your own pace anywhere you have a computer and an online web connection.
More than 20 UFCW Canada activists, staff and members from across Canada recently showed their Pride by marching in the 2011 Montreal Pride Parade. Labour Day is one of our proudest and longest-running traditions. For over 120 years, workers have come together during the final days of summer to celebrate our monumental achievements and to demonstrate our solidarity by gathering at parades, picnics and other fun-filled activities.
As part of the heartfelt affection Canadians are showing for recently passed NDP Leader Jack Layton, UFCW Canada is calling on all activists, friends and supporters to create something that memorializes Jack’s life and his remarkable commitment to creating a better, fairer Canada.
In honour of Jack Layton's outstanding contribution to the social justice movement, UFCW Canada has created a commemorative poster to celebrate his remarkable life and the hope and optimism he inspired in Canadians from coast to coast.
