Solidarity spurs settlement at Maxi in Quebec

February 17, 2009 – Following a return to conciliation on Feb. 16, UFCW Canada Local 503 announced on Feb. 17 that a tentative agree¬ment had been reached with Maxi supermarkets at 10 locations in eastern Quebec.

Il faut cesser de mettre la crise économique sur le dos des immigrants: Les TUAC Canada demandent moins de blâme et plus de solutions

Le 12 février 2009 – À peine quelques mois se sont écoulés depuis que nous sommes plongés dans une crise économique au Canada, et déjà les chefs libéraux et conservateurs se servent de l’économie pour faire adopter des politiques d‘immigration plus restrictives.  « Fermer la porte de l’immigration n’est pas une solution. La diversité du Canada a toujours été l’un des atouts les plus précieux de notre pays. L’immigration a été une source de prospérité pour notre pays », déclare le président national des TUAC Canada Wayne Hanley.

Harper shortchanges unemployment numbers

 
 
February 6, 2009 — The announcement by Statistics Canada that another 129,000 workers joined the ranks of the unemployed in the month of January, gives further proof that the Harper Government’s budget will not do enough to lift the country out of the current recession, the worst since the Great Depression.
