UFCW Canada supports Aramark strikers
|
On March 19, nearly 200 supporters – including UFCW Canada members – rallied behind 20 Aramark workers on strike since earlier in the month. The workers are food service and janitorial workers employed by the multinational corporation to provide cafeteria and cleaning services at the Markham, Ont., campus of Seneca College. While the striking workers are members of another union (UNITE HERE!), UFCW Canada represents Aramark employees at several locations, including at Seneca’s York University campus in Toronto. “Aramark is a huge corporation, making billions of dollars a year, yet it offers only poor wages and benefits to its hard-working employees,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley. “These Aramark workers are only seeking equity with their counterparts at other Aramark workplaces within Seneca’s various campuses.”
