UFCW Canada gets ready for Toronto Pride Week 2014 – Part 4UFCW OUTreach and the Celebrate Your UFCW Pride Event

Toronto – June 12, 2014 – In August 2013, at the 7th UFCW International Convention in Chicago, four UFCW Canada activists were elected at the inaugural executive board meeting of UFCW OUTreach. OUTreach is our union’s newest constituency group, with a mission to strengthen support with LGBTQ communities throughout Canada and the United States by way of solidarity and joint advocacy work.

OUTreach members will be active at the upcoming Toronto Pride Celebrations, taking place from June 27-29, 2014. As the nation’s leading and most progressive union, UFCW Canada members and activists will have a strong and sustained presence throughout this year’s World Pride celebration.

Working with co-ordinators of Toronto’s Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts, OUTreach will present a labour–themed LGBT Art Showcase at a special UFCW Event entitled Come and Celebrate Your UFCW Pride, set to take place at the Sheraton Centre Hotel on June 28 from 10am to 4pm. This drop-in event is free for everyone to attend and will provide an opportunity to network, grab refreshments, and hear from dignitaries such as Mariela Castro, a notable human rights activist from Cuba’s Cenesex Centre for Sexual Health, as well as local labour and community leaders. There will also be music and a raffle for UFCW Canada members who present their union card.

For 2014, let's make history as we prepare to march in the Pride Parade, Dyke March, and Trans March on the weekend of June 27 to 29.
