UFCW Canada gets ready for Toronto Pride Week 2014 – Part 3

World Pride Set to Take over Toronto

Toronto – June 9, 2014 - World Pride is a celebration bringing LGBT organizations, communities and allies together under a global structure. The event is coordinated by the World Pride Committee of Interpride and its respective host organization. Interpride originated in Boston and was founded in 1982 to represent the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Pride Coordinators.

In 2003, Interpride’s annual conference was held in Montreal, marking the first time the conference was held in a predominantly non-English-speaking city. Last year, the conference was once again held in Montreal and supported by UFCW Canada Locals 500 and 501.

This year, Toronto is getting ready to host the biggest Pride celebration to date – with 2 million people expected to be in attendance – under the banner theme Rise Up!

Excitement is building and at a press conference on May 22, 2014, Kevin Beaulieu, Executive Director for World Pride 2014, stated that he wants "World Pride itself to be a legacy." As the nation’s leading and most progressive union, UFCW Canada is playing an important role in mobilizing members, activists, and families to participate in WorldPride 2014.

This year, let's make history together, as we prepare to march in the Pride Parade, Dyke March, and Trans March on the weekend of June 27 to 29. Check out our Special UFCW Canada Event on June 28 at the Sheraton Centre Hotel, from 10am to 4pm.
