Workers at Metro Plus in Mont-Joli ratify new six-year collective agreement

Workers at Métro Plus in Mont-Joli ratify new six-year collective agreementMont-Joli, Que. – February 22, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 509 is pleased to announce that the agreement in principle reached between the Local Union's bargaining committee and the Metro Plus in Mont-Joli, Quebec has been approved by an overwhelming majority of workers. With this six-year agreement, the union contract is now renewed for the 45 Local 509 members who work at the grocery store.

In terms of contract gains, the new agreement provides a 2 percent wage increase for all employees. A wage adjustment provision has also been added to ensure that rates of pay will be raised if there is an increase in the minimum wage. Moreover, employees won an increase in the employer reimbursement of dental expenses, which will be rising to 80 percent of the total cost of such expenses.

Local 509 President Daniel Nadeau says he is quite happy with the outcome of this round of bargaining. "We are most satisfied with this agreement as it includes improvements for the Metro members working in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. As a result of this contract, their working conditions will be better, and our members are very pleased about that," Brother Nadeau says.
