Vancouver – July 10, 2013 – The Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) was recently recognized for its longstanding advocacy of migrant farm workers' labour rights at a fundraising dinner hosted by CoDevelopment Canada (CoDev), a British Columbia-based non-profit organization that works for social change and global education in the Americas.
CoDev's Board of Directors presented the AWA's Surrey and Abbotsford Support Centres with the 2013 Solidarity Award at their 28th Annual Solidarity and Fundraising Dinner in Vancouver. The event was attended by several representatives from British Columbia's labour movement, as well as local solidarity groups and grassroots community organizations.
The Surrey Support Centre invited workers from various farms to attend the ceremony, share in the celebration, and officially receive the award on behalf of the AWA, which represents and provides services to thousands of migrant farm workers at ten support centres across Canada.
