Red Lobster Nepean workers join union – UFCW 1006A
Nepean, Ont. – September 18, 2026 – Restaurant workers at the Red Lobster restaurant in Nepean recently voted to join UFCW 1006A.
"The main theme that carried us in this campaign was that people shouldn't have to be afraid at work,” said a worker at Red Lobster. "Now we aren't scared anymore. Now we have hope. We can never go back to the way it was before. We will win a contract and we will choose our own future.”
The new members work in a variety of roles at the restaurant, including hostess, server, bartender and in the kitchen. Key issues that led to unionization included the need for representation, health and safety concerns and scheduling issues.
“We are thrilled to welcome our newest members from Red Lobster into the UFCW 1006A family,” said UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “We look forward to working together with our members to improve their rights and livelihoods and build a fairer workplace for all.”
This is the third Red Lobster location to join UFCW in Canada, following Edmonton, Alberta and Burlington, Ont.
UFCW Local 1006A represents 42,000 members in a wide range of sectors across Ontario, including Grocery Retail, Food Processing, Restaurant, Hotels, Security, Retail Commerce, Laundry, Warehousing, Transit, and Cannabis.
