BDM Scholarship recipient pursues career in the skilled trades

Halifax, N.S. – June 26, 2026 – UFCW Local 361W member Devon Anderson is one of the latest recipients of the UFCW Canada BDM Scholarship.
Anderson is currently enrolled in the Industrial Mechanical program at the Nova Scotia Community College Institute of Technology campus and is using the scholarship to support his education as he works toward a career in the millwright trade.
“Thank you for selecting me for the Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship,” says Anderson. “This amazing award will help go towards purchasing books, school supplies, and any materials needed to help me complete the first step in my journey to become a full Red Seal in the millwright trade. I hope UFCW Canada continues to offer this award so other students have the chance to further their education and join the trades with the help of this award.”
The UFCW Canada BDM Scholarship offers a total of $18,000 in scholarships to UFCW Canada members and their families and is one of more than 25 union scholarships available to members and their relatives every year, totaling more than $300,000 in educational support.
