Record-breaking 31st CLC Convention sees Team Unite re-elected to CLC leadership
Winnipeg – May 20, 2026 - The Team Unite slate, backed by UFCW Canada and led by longtime UFCW Canada activist Bea Bruske, was re-elected to leadership at the 31st Convention of the Canadian Labour Congress in Winnipeg.
Re-elected to the position of CLC President, Sister Bruske will continue to lead Canada’s labour movement for another term. Lily Chang was re-elected as Secretary-Treasurer, while Siobhán Vipond and Marc-Edouard Joubert were re-elected as Executive Vice-Presidents.
The 31st CLC Convention marked the largest convention in the history of the Canadian Labour Congress, bringing together a record number of delegates from unions and labour organizations across the country — including a strong and highly visible contingent from UFCW Canada. Throughout the week, UFCW Canada activists participated in debates, caucuses, and convention discussions focused on strengthening workers’ rights and building a stronger labour movement for the future.
Delegates debated and passed resolutions on key issues facing workers, including protecting Canadian jobs, improving labour laws, addressing affordability challenges, advancing equity and inclusion, supporting reconciliation with First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, and defending public services.
“Team Unite’s re-election is a powerful reflection of the unity and confidence workers across Canada have in this leadership team,” says Barry Sawyer, National President of UFCW Canada. “This convention showed the strength of our movement and the important role UFCW Canada members continue to play in shaping the future of Canada’s labour movement.”
The Canadian Labour Congress is the largest labour organization in Canada, representing more than 3 million workers through dozens of affiliated national and international unions. The next CLC convention is scheduled to take place in 2029.
