Saskatchewan local unions give to support local food banks
Saskatoon – December 5, 2025 – For Giving Tuesday, the Saskatchewan local unions, UFCW 1400, 649 and 248P made donations to the Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon Food Banks.
The money was raised by UFCW members from across the province, who made the donation possible.
In Saskatoon, UFCW Saskatchewan locals donated $10,000 to the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre’s Light It Up campaign.
UFCW 248P President, Pat Horbay, told CKOM 650 that the cost of going to a grocery store can be “outrageous” for some people, and that is why the union has chosen to donate to the food bank.
“It’s sad. People have full time jobs (and) they still can’t afford to eat,” Horbay added. “We don’t know where that problem is coming from.”
“We’re happy to donate $10,000 on behalf of our members to the Saskatoon Foodbank today,” UFCW 649 President Brant Palko announced.
“I think for us, it’s important to show that the solidarity that unions show extends beyond the workplace, into the community,” Palko told CTV News.
