Community care workers join union – UFCW 175
Ottawa – September 5, 2025 – Community healthcare providers at Belong Ottawa have voted Union Yes! to join UFCW Local 175.
The 75 new members, who work both full and part-time at three Belong Ottawa locations in the city, provide support and services for people in the community who are in need of housing.
“Like many community care workers, our new members at Belong Ottawa provide essential quality of life services to vulnerable people in their city,” said UFCW 175 President Kelly Tosato. “As UFCW 175 members, these workers can now unify their voices and work together to build a better workplace for themselves going forward knowing that the union has their back.”
Members at Belong Ottawa will benefit from UFCW Local 175’s extensive negotiating experience in the community care sector. In bargaining for their first collective agreement, these members hope to address compensation, job security, health and safety, respect on the job, and having enhanced transparency in the workplace.
