First contract for shelter workers – UFCW 175 & 633
Ottawa, Ont. – August 11, 2025 – The new UFCW 175 members in Ottawa at Interval House have ratified their first collective agreement with a three-year term. Workers at Interval House who provide safe shelter and support to women and gender-diverse people fleeing domestic and gender-based violence.
Contract improvements include wage increases, matching RRSPs and benefit plans, sick leave, mileage, vacation, on call premium increases, and personal emergency leave and mental health leave enshrined in conteact language.
Along with these improvements, the workers now also have the rights and benefits of unionized workers of a grievance and arbitration procedure, recall and scheduling of hours, a sunset clause for discipline, representation language, seniority rights for promotion, layoff, and the scheduling of hours.
