Launching the UFCW National Mental Health Survey
Toronto – February 19, 2024 – UFCW Canada knows that mental health, both in and out of the workplace, are crucial for worker health and well-being. Mental health education and advocacy are key priorities for our union: today, we are launching the UFCW Canada National Mental Health Survey, to better understand the effects of mental health in the workplace.
This survey is open all UFCW members, and all respondents will have a chance to win one of five $50 gift cards. Survey runs until May 11.
In 2022, the UFCW Canada Disability Justice Questionnaire told us that our members’ experience with a mental health-related disability was second only to physical pain-related disabilities. We also know that being a union member made a difference in whether UFCW members disclosed their disability to their employer and engaged their local union in securing workplace supports.
The survey was created by UFCW Canada in collaboration with Local 832 and CFACQ / TUAC 500. Both local unions are leading work integration programs to support persons with disabilities in gaining access to unionized employment within UFCW-represented sectors.
We know the work to combat stigma and shame associated with mental health concerns continues to require a collective effort if it is to lead positive change in workplace culture across all UFCW represented sectors. Through this survey, we’ll put the onus where it belongs, and that is on the employer’s obligation to keep workers safe at work and the government’s obligation to ensure that laws are in place to ensure that workplaces are disability inclusive and psychologically safe.
The survey can be accessed in both official languages and takes just 17 minutes to complete. All responses are kept anonymous and once completed, all respondents become eligible to enter a draw for a $50 grocery retail gift card.
By entering the contact info, participants provide permission to be contacted by UFCW Canada for any focus group or other initiative that may flow from the results of the survey findings.
