UFCW Canada Indigenous Committee launches 2025 calendar, celebrating culture and history
Toronto – January 7, 2025 – UFCW Canada is proud to introduce its first-ever Indigenous Calendar, created in collaboration with the UFCW Canada Indigenous Committee and the Assembly of Seven Generations (A7G). This groundbreaking calendar marks an important step in recognizing and honouring Indigenous cultures, traditions, and histories.
Unlike the traditional Gregorian calendar, this unique calendar highlights key dates tied to Indigenous cultural ceremonies, seasonal events, and historical moments of importance. These dates are based on Indigenous cycles of the land, the natural world, and spiritual practices, providing an authentic reflection of Indigenous perspectives. The collaboration ensures that the calendar respects the voices and traditions of Indigenous peoples, showcasing their deep connection to the land and history.
A standout feature of the calendar is its artwork, which highlights the talents of Indigenous youth from across Canada. The designs were chosen through a contest organized by the UFCW Indigenous Committee and A7G, featuring the vibrant creativity of young Indigenous artists. Each piece is a visual representation of the diverse cultural expressions, identities, and experiences of Indigenous communities, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary Indigenous life.
The UFCW Canada Indigenous Calendar serves as a tool for education, reconciliation, and cultural awareness. It is more than just a way to mark time—it's a celebration of Indigenous resilience and knowledge.
