Food processing workers at Aliments Morehouse join union – UFCW 1991-P
Montréal – October 17, 2024 – UFCW 1991-P is proud to announce that workers from the food processing plant Aliments Morehouse chose to join the union. The 80 workers from this unit reached this decisive step by getting the certification from the Administrative Labour Tribunal (TAT) on October 7, 2024.
The workers from this company specialize in the production of the Le Grec French dressing, as well as marinades, mustards, dips, and mayonnaises of private brands. They work at various positions, namely as recipe preparators, day workers, flow line operators, quality control technicians, lift truck operators, research and development technicians, and maintenance and sanitation.
The decision to join came from the willingness of the workers that were asking for better work conditions, including improvement to wages, unfair situations, and abuse of power. These men and women also wished to improve the internal communications at work to create a fairer and more respectful environment.
“UFCW 1991-P, strong with a solid expertise in the food processing industry, was proud to welcome these new members and to accompany them through the process of improving their work conditions. This success reinforces UFCW’s engagement to champion the workers’ rights across the province,” says UFCW 1991-P President Janick Vallières.
In the upcoming weeks, a negotiation committee will prepare the list of demands from the new union members. Composed of workers, this committee will be supported by a solid and experienced union team from UFCW 1991-P.
