Cannabis workers at ‘The Joint’ join the union — UFCW 1400
Saskatoon, Sask. – September 9, 2024 – In a historic first move in Saskatoon’s cannabis industry, workers at five ‘The Joint’ locations in the city have said “Yes!” to joining UFCW Canada Local 1400.
The group, comprising of around 40 dedicated workers, is largely made up of younger individuals who are deeply committed to advancing both their working conditions, and the cannabis industry.
The workers joined the union to address various workplace issues and to secure a fair collective agreement. This initiative underscores a broader trend within the cannabis sector, where workers are increasingly seeking to establish strong, supportive workplace environments through joining UFCW.
“The decision to join UFCW 1400 reflects their strong belief in the power of collective strength and fairness,” says UFCW Local 1400 President Lucy Figueiredo. “These workers are not just employees; they are passionate professionals who take pride in the vital service they provide to the community.
