UFCW OUTreach and Drag Academy graphic novel promotes inclusivity and kindness
Toronto – August 23, 2024 – Earlier this year, UFCW OUTreach collaborated with Drag Academy, a partnership that resulted in an inspiring and impactful initiative. One of the highlights of this collaboration was the creation of a short graphic novel titled “Aanya's Superpowers.” This unique project was specifically developed for one of the three sessions that comprised the UFCW and Drag Academy partnership.
The graphic novel, penned and illustrated by Drag Academy founder Daven Seebarran, serves as both a creative and educational tool. “Aanya's Superpowers” explores themes of power and privilege through the eyes of its young protagonist, Aanya. In the story, Aanya witnesses a colleague being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Disturbed by this injustice, Aanya decides to take a stand against the bullies, emphasizing that colours are meant for everyone and advocating for kindness and acceptance in the workplace.
The graphic novel was featured prominently during one of the sessions of the UFCW and Drag Academy collaboration, aiming to promote a message of inclusivity and respect.
“Aanya's Superpowers” is more than just a story; it is a powerful statement about standing up for what is right and ensuring that everyone feels valued and respected.
