UFCW raises $1.6 million this year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada

Toronto – July 5, 2024 – The UFCW Canada family of members, activists, and local unions has raised over $1.6 million this year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, bringing the lifetime fundraising total to $51.6 million.

The historic partnership of nearly four decades dates to 1985 when UFCW Canada adopted the LLSC as their charity of choice. Since then, UFCW Canada has become the largest annual fundraising organization for the LLSC participating in numerous fundraising activists, including Light the Night walks and the annual Returns for Leukemia bottle drive to raise money for the fight against blood cancers.

“As a union family, we are grateful UFCW members and local unions have made such a positive impact on research, better treatments and outcomes for blood cancer patients and their families,” says Shawn Haggerty, National President, “I could not be more proud of the generosity and commitment that our UFCW Canada family has shown throughout years.”

UFCW 175 member Ted Dawes raised over $31,000 for LLSC in his final Ted on the Roof event at Morello’s YIG in Peterborough; this year was the last time he will be climbing the roof, after holding this event annually for over 20 years.

The money raised annually by UFCW Canada activists and local unions across Canada is used to support research and programs to find a cure, provide better therapies and patient support, and raise public awareness of leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.
