Members at Darling International processing plant achieve first contract – UFCW 1006A
Hamilton, Ont. – November 6, 2023 – UFCW 1006A members at Darling International’s plant have ratified their first union contract after their 2022 organizing campaign.
“I am proud to congratulate our members at Darling International’s plant on their first union contract,” said UFCW Local 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “Our members have a lot to be proud of, from winning union representation with UFCW to now ratifying their first union contract. With this first contract, we have created a fair and strong foundation to build on, and we look forward to working with our members to strengthen their rights and improve their workplace conditions for the years to come.”
The first contract highlights include significant wage increases, scheduling gains, and improvements to overtime and on-call rates.
The local union also represents members in Darling International’s fleet division, who have also recently achieved a first union contract.
Darling International Canada handles the management of collecting, processing, and recycling edible and inedible animal by-products.
