UFCW Canada’s lifetime fundraising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada tops $50 million milestone
Toronto – July 4, 2023 – The UFCW Canada family of Local Unions, members, and activists have now raised over $50 million for the life-changing work of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) with $1.68 million contributed over the last year.
The historic partnership of nearly four decades dates to 1985 when UFCW Canada adopted the LLSC as their charity of choice. Since then, UFCW Canada has become the largest annual fundraising organization for the LLSC participating in numerous fundraising activists, including Light the Night walks and the annual Returns for Leukemia bottle drive to raise money for the fight against blood cancers.
“I could not be more proud of the generosity and commitment that our UFCW Canada family has shown throughout years,” says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. “Together, and united in purpose, our UFCW Canada family continues to make impactful differences in the lives of blood cancer patients and their families. Surpassing this historic milestone demonstrates the resolve of UFCW Canada members and Local Unions in saving lives today, and together, we strive to help make leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers a thing of the past.”
The money raised annually by UFCW Canada activists and Local Unions across Canada is used to support research and programs to find a cure, provide better therapies and patient support, and raise public awareness of leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.
