Retirement home workers at Les Jardins d'Aurelie join the union – UFCW 1991-P
Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. – June 27, 2022 — UFCW Local 1991-P is very proud to welcome a new group of workers from Les Jardins d'Aurelie seniors' residence in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
"We are very happy and proud to welcome the employees of Les Jardins d'Aurelie, who for the first time in their history, have formed a union,” says Mario Maisonneuve, President of UFCW 1991-P. “By choosing to join our large, international organization, this group is improving its bargaining power and giving itself a strong voice to negotiate with the employer.”
The certification petition filed in the spring was recently approved by the Administrative Labor Tribunal (ALT). The fifty or so employees, the vast majority of whom are women, work in the kitchen or as beneficiary attendants and nurses.
