York Region and Durham Region, Ont. – January 11, 2022 – Social services workers at The Salvation Army York Housing and Support Services are the newest members of UFCW 175 & 633 after a successful certification vote to join the union.

“Over the six-week campaign, these members showed true resolve in fighting for basic employment rights and have sent a clear message to their employer,” says UFCW 175 President Shawn Haggerty. “Their strength will go a long way to helping them achieve a safe, equitable, and secure working environment going forward.”

The new members provide housing and support services at not-for-profit shelters, servicing clients in the York and Durham regions of Ontario. Workers organized to secure seniority rights, better working conditions, eliminate favourtism, and to hold their employer accountable on commitments made to staff.
