Save Food Jobs in Canada – Stop the Conservative attack on a key Canadian industry

Ottawa – February 5, 2013 – Canada’s voice for food workers is calling on activists, friends and supporters to join a new campaign that tells the country’s Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz – along with Conservative Boss Stephen Harper – to immediately stop their attack on the Canadian food industry and the hard working people who make it possible.

Regulatory changes by the Conservatives are threatening to cost one of Canada’s most important industries thousands of jobs. In fact, the food processing has now eclipsed the auto industry in terms of total employment and revenue, as recently reported by the CBC.

The Harper government's proposed changes to weaken Canadian food packaging regulations "is a recipe that could kill thousands of good food processing jobs in Canada," says UFCW Canada National President Hanley in an open letter to Ritz and Harper.
