Charlottetown, P.E.I. – July 31, 2019 – UFCW Canada members, activists, family, and friends came out in record numbers on July 27 to celebrate Pride in P.E.I. at the annual Pride Parade in Charlottetown.

Led by the union’s Eastern Province’s Council (EPC), UFCW Canada activists celebrated pride, diversity, and inclusion by joining thousands of parade-goers in marching down Terry Fox Drive and through the city’s historic Euston, Great George, and Grafton Streets, before arriving at Rochford Square.

As part of the parade, activists marched alongside the colourful UFCW EPC float and handed out UFCW Canada tote bags to onlookers.

“The day was filled with love and acceptance, and this year’s turnout was even bigger than last year’s, as UFCW Local 864 members from across the Island participated,” says Mark Dobson, UFCW Canada Regional Director for the Eastern Provinces. “A great time was had by all who attended, and I would like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate with us,” he adds.

This year’s parade had particularly special significance, as it marked 25 years since the first Pride march was held on the Island in 1994.

The union’s participation in the P.E.I. Pride Parade follows UFCW’s recent support for the Halifax Pride Parade and other Pride festivities across Canada.
