Thousands of students across Canada go #AllOutNov2 to #TossTuition

Toronto – November 2, 2016 – UFCW Canada activists joined in solidarity with thousands of students across the country on November 2 in protest against ever-increasing tuition fees and to call on our governments to #TossTuition.

On November 2, in cities and at school campuses around the country, students and activists banded together in a National Day of Action. The day was co-ordinated by the Canadian Federation of Students and supported by UFCW Canada.

"Education is one of the biggest factors in the creation of both opportunity and equality," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. "Education is essential and is a human right. It is time to overhaul the system of post-secondary education so that students today and in the future won't face thousands of dollars of debt when they graduate.”

Students at the demonstrations called for called for more funding for students, and a fairer post-secondary education system which provides universal access to education. The rallies also featured performances, and also showcased the work of local visual artists. UFCW Canada activists were on hand showing their support for #AllOutNov2 as well as UFCW Canada's #TossTuition campaign, which calls for free, universal access to post-secondary education.

Over the past two decades, average tuition frees across Canada have skyrocketed by over 137%. Students today, on average, graduate with over $28,000 of education-related debt.
