UFCW Canada and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) recognized the efforts of four outstanding advocates for change in Canada’s agriculture industry at a ceremony in Toronto on November 21.

Representing four different but equally important areas of the progressive movement, three individuals and one organization were honoured for their exceptional commitments and contributions:

“These individuals and organizations are truly in keeping with UFCW Canada’s pursuit of social and economic justice and passion for community, fairness and collective action by devoting their strength and their soul to the cause of justice and fairness for agriculture workers,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley, who joined more than 300 activists and supporters at the event to celebrate outstanding activism, and to fundraise for the AWA’s 10 worker Support Centres across the country.

“It has been UFCW Canada and the AWA’s main goal to take this invisible work force and make them visible to the public, our allies and the media and to ultimately represent these workers though our union and provide them with a decent collective agreement. This is and continues to be the primary focus of our campaign,” adds Brother Hanley.
