UFCW Canada and AWA host Simcoe Health Fair for agriculture workersSimcoe, Ont. – August 4, 2016 – More than 300 seasonal agriculture workers in the Norfolk County area participated in the 2016 Annual Seasonal Agricultural Worker Health and Information Fair, hosted by UFCW Canada and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA).

The Grand River Health Clinic, Norfolk County, and other community agencies also participated as hosts, welcoming migrant agriculture workers from across the region, providing them with access to vital health and service information, and engaging in an afternoon of food and refreshments.

The annual health fair provides migrant workers with free health services, information, and resources, while allowing participating health organizations to gain awareness of the health-related challenges that migrant agriculture workers face on a daily basis.

Activists from Students Against Migrant Exploitation (SAME), along with the Toronto-based Youth Feeding Youth Food Bank, joined together to donate over 50 bags of food to the event attendees. The event also featured a UFCW Canada and AWA display area and information booth, as well as displays by a variety of non-profit and community organizations.

"UFCW Canada and the AWA are extremely proud to participate year after year in the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Health Fair," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. "We would like to thank the volunteers who continually make this event a success by providing crucial assistance to migrant agriculture workers."
